MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY
MEDICAL POINT-OF-CARE TESTING Career Studies Certificate AN

Purpose: This program provides non-laboratory health care professionals with instruction in performing medical laboratory tests in the "waived" category as defined by the Clinical laboratory Improvement Amendment of 1988 (CLIA88). Health care providers who are being asked to add point-of-care testing (POCT) to their current duties include: Registered Nurses (RN), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA), Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT), and Registered Technologists in Radiography (RTR).

Prerequisites: Placement in ENG 111, College Composition I, and MTH 126, Mathematics for Allied Health. CPR-C Certification. A complete physical, including documentation of immunizations and the Hepatitis B vaccine, must be on file prior to clinical placement.

1 Upon successful completion with a C or better in MDL 105 and MDL 190, students will be eligible to sit for national certification in Phlebotomy.
