First Year Experience

We welcome you to Northern Virginia Community College and are thrilled that you have chosen to begin your college studies with us. To provide you with the support and information for success, we invite you to participate in a program called the First Year Experience (FYE).

The goal of the program is to provide academic, career and social support because we know that your first year in college is important and can determine your future success. The FYE includes

  • New Student Orientation
  • SDV 100 for new students
  • FYE Convocation
  • Learning Communities
  • Social Networking Activities

There are 3 C’s that guide the FYE program and they are:

Connection
NOVA students must be connected to the campus, the resources and information they need to negotiate the College.

Critical Thinking
NOVA students will be challenged with academic and student development experiences needed to develop intellectually, academically and personally.

Community Building
NOVA students will feel a sense of community through intentional student development and co-curricular program while on campus such as student activities, mentoring, peer mentoring and orientation.

We encourage you to review the Overview information and then get involved by contacting Student Services at 703.878.5760 or visit Room 202 or Email tingram@nvcc.edu.
