Health Information Technology Career Studies Certificate
NOVA is a part of the Health Information Technology Community College Consortium Project, responsible for delivering workforce development training to Allied Healthcare professionals. The Health Information Systems Center of Excellence, located on the MEC Campus, lead participation in the Consortium Project by offering training through the HIT Workforce Roles Program.
The HIT Workforce Roles Program began in September 2010. The program was very successful and as a result, the HIS Center of Excellence was granted an extension beyond the anticipated April 2012 completion date. Under this program, the HIS Center of Excellence met and surpassed the target amount of students to be trained with government funded grants. To date, more than 300 students have been trained through the HIS Center of Excellence HIT Workforce Roles Training Program.
The last cohort to be trained under the grant will be admitted in Spring 2012. As the grant period has come to a close, the Health IT Career Studies Certificate was created and approved to continue training the Healthcare-IT workforce in meaningful use of Electronic Health Records.
The 21 credit curriculum program trains students with employment experience in Healthcare or Information Technology to become competent in all aspects of workflow process analysis and redesign as it relates to: adoption, implementation, maintenance, and optimization phases of the transition to the use of electronic health record systems. This new program will begin in Fall 2012.
