Non-NOVA Students must meet the following requirements if they want to enroll in co-op:
- Students can only obtain credit for an internship if they meet the co-op requirements outlined on this page and register for a co-op course during one of NOVA’s sixteen or eight week sessions in the fall and spring semesters or they enroll in a 12 or six-week session during the summer. NOVA does not reward academic credit retroactively for internships that have been completed previously.
- Students can earn a maximum of ten credits in co-op. Students who are anything other than U.S. citizens or permanent residents may register for a maximum of 10 credits of co-op over a three semester period.
- Non-NOVA Students must be in good academic standing at the college where they are currently enrolled; have graduated from college or have been in good academic standing when they were enrolled. They must have completed 15 college credits; 6 credits in their major or area of the co-op; have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above. Students who have been suspended from their college will be ineligible to participate in co-op through NOVA.

- Students are also strongly encouraged to enroll in SDV 106 Preparation for Employment prior to enrolling in the co-op. This course addresses many of the challenges students will face in their search for internships, such as: resume writing, preparation of applications and cover letters, how to successfully complete an interview, how to identify their marketable skills and attitudes, and how to design strategies for a successful employment search.
