Clubs & Organizations
The Office of Student Activities organizes campus wide events and oversees the activities of all student organizations at the Alexandria Campus. We offer numerous opportunities for students to become involved in leadership and community service activities. The student organizations listed below seek students for officer and membership positions. Involvement provides great opportunities to develop new skills, build experience and accomplishments, and meet new friends. Consider getting involved and enhance your educational experience at Northern Virginia Community College!
All African Student Union (AASU)
The All African Student Union promotes unity and awareness among all students. Officers and members work on campus and within the community to promote leadership, community service, and fellowship. The AASU has also co-sponsored events during Black History Month.
American Institute of Architectural Students (AIAS)
The American Institute of Architecture Students is a chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The objective of the chapter is to foster and promote appreciation and understanding of the ideas and objectives of the institute. The organization emphasizes and promotes professional and social aspects of student activities on campus, fosters fellowship, cooperation and unity among members, and enhances chapter members’ understanding of the current and future scope of architectural practices.
Asian Student Association
The Asian Student Association introduces Asian history and culture through dialogue, education, events and activities on campus, to promote a positive environment for all students.
Chess Club
The Chess Club provides a forum for enthusiasts of all levels to play, discuss and learn about the game of chess. This organization hopes to bolster the college’s academic environment, foster a sense of community, and cultivate a spirit of friendly competition.
Christian Korean Interest Group
The Christian Korean Interest Group meets every Sunday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm for worship services and as a support group for all interested students.
Construction Management Technology Student Association
The Construction Management Student Association provides opportunities for professional development through professional association affiliation and organizes special events and career networking. The Construction Club co-sponsors an annual Construction Management Job Fair every spring, at the Dulles Expo Center.
Eckankar Interest Group
The Eckankar Interest Group is one of the longest standing interest groups at the Alexandria Campus. This campus spiritual discussion group hosts open monthly meetings to discuss topics such as the interpretation of dreams, soul travel, reincarnation, and the spiritual significance of dreams. Satsang classes meet monthly at the Eckankar Center in Annandale.
Environmental Campus Council Association
The Environmental Campus Council educates the campus population on the necessity and benefits of recycling, waste and pollution reduction, and the looming problem of global warming. The organization works directly with campus administration and the campus community to improve recycling and waste reduction practices at the campus.
Gay/Straight Alliance (GSA)
The mission of the Gay/Straight Alliance is to create understanding through open dialogue between the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered and Straight communities. The organization acts as a safe haven for all students and a voice within Northern Virginia Community College. Educational and social activities are developed to create an environment free of real or perceived discrimination against the GLBT community.
International Club
The International Club recognizes and celebrates cultural diversity among students. The organization provides opportunities for students to work together toward common goals on the campus and in the community, which may include fashion shows, guest lectures, talent performances, fundraising, community service events, and other activities.
Muslim Student Association (MSA)
The Muslim Student Association promotes an understanding of Islam and Muslim culture on campus while meeting the cultural needs of Muslim students through numerous guest lectures, special events and dissemination of information. All students, faculty, and staff are invited and welcome to attend the lectures and special events.
Nova Fortnightly (College Student Newspaper)
The Nova Fortnightly is the college-wide student newspaper which publishes news, editorials, feature articles, entertainment news and advertisements for distribution at all six campuses of Northern Virginia Community College. The Nova Fortnightly accepts applications for staff writers, reporters and photographers throughout the year.
Paralegal Interest Group
The Paralegal Interest Group organizes study groups to generate interest in the Paralegal Program, to initiate interest in internships, and other supporting activities.
Persian Club
The Persian Club promotes the Persian culture to the Alexandria Campus student body and the community through the dissemination of information, club events, and activities.
Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society
The American Association of Community Colleges recognizes Phi Theta Kappa as the official honor society for two-year colleges. The Honor Society’s purpose is to recognize academic achievement and provide opportunities for individual growth and development through leadership, scholarship, fellowship, and community service. Eligibility for membership includes a minimum GPA of 3.5 and the completion of at least 12 credits.
Spanish American Latin Student Association (SALSA)
The Salsa Club promotes the culture and traditions of Hispanic and Latin communities, to foster an understanding of the educational, artistic, political and cultural contributions to our society. Activities have included seminars, festivals, salsa lessons, and performances. The Salsa Club has also co-sponsored events during National Hispanic Heritage Month.
Student Ambassador Club
The Student Ambassador Club is comprised of student volunteers who have an interest in providing service to the college community. Members often volunteer to conduct tours of the campus and have participated in food drives, blood drives, fundraising events, hosting guest speakers, and sponsoring workshops to benefit the campus community.
Student Business Association (SBA)
The Student Business Association provides a network for students with similar interests in business careers. Activities may include guest speakers, field trips, career education sessions, visits to transfer institutions, and guidance/networking relating to internship opportunities and business interests.
Student Government Association (SGA)
The Student Government Association represents the rights, welfare and interests (academic, social, cultural and physical) of the campus student body to the campus administration. The SGA officers support and promotes activities to improve the quality of student life, through the development of a Student Senate, supporting student club goals and activities, relaying student concerns, making recommendations, and assisting in the implementation of solutions, in cooperation with campus administration.
Students for a Democratic Society
Students for a Democratic Society is a chapter of a national organization which focuses on education and social action dedicated to increasing democracy in all phases of life. The organization seeks to promote the active participation of young people in the formation of a movement to build a society free from poverty, ignorance, war, exploitation, racism, and sexism.
Table Tennis (College-wide)
The Table Tennis Interest Group was organized to provide opportunities for students to play table tennis in order to develop their skills and participate in competitions. This group includes students, faculty and staff across the college, with various different skills levels. Sessions are normally held on Friday afternoons and Saturdays in the Tyler Gym.
Turkish Student Association
The Turkish Student Association aims to increase the communication and cooperation among the students at Nova, by developing ties between the Turkish students and all others through a variety of social, cultural and educational activities.
Virginia21 Chapter at the Alexandria Campus
The Virginia21 Chapter is an affiliate of the 21st Century Virginia Coalition, Inc, an action tank organization involving college students from across the state of Virginia in the political process by providing information, directing advocacy and coordinating political actions on a non-partisan issue agenda.
