Community Service Opportunities
Serving as a community service volunteer can be very rewarding. There are many opportunities available at the Alexandria Campus and the Office of Student Activities is always interested in hearing new ideas from students. Many of the community service opportunities offered at the Alexandria Campus are organized and managed by our student organizations.
Volunteer Opportunities on Campus
The Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society organizes several community service projects including:
- Adopt-a-Block Cleanup Programs
- Hearts and Hammers Home/Landscaping Renovations
- Books for Africa Textbook Drives
- Recycling Projects
- Relay for Life Fundraiser and Rally (American Cancer Society)
- Secret Santa Gift Donations
The Student Government Association and the Student Ambassador Club organize community service projects that include:
- Inova Blood Donor Drives
- Canned Food Drives
- Voter Registration Drives
- Nursing Home Visits

Volunteer Opportunities Off-Campus
Students who are interested in volunteering for community service activities off-campus or serving as members in professional organizations, should contact the Campus and Community Relations Office, at 703.933.5076 or you can email Yolanda Barbier and request an application form.
Student Tutors and Writing Assistance Tutors
Student tutors providing tutoring in both one-on-one sessions and group sessions to students in various subjects, including the sciences, mathematics, languages and writing assistance. Tutors are paid on an hourly basis for their services. For more information and applications, visit the Academic Center for Excellence, Room 229, Bisdorf Building.
Student Ambassador/Mentors
The Student Ambassador Program trains students to assist new and current students in the admissions and registration process, represent the college in area high school outreach efforts and college fairs, provide campus tours to visiting high school students, and participate in focus groups and panels. Student Ambassadors receive compensation but are also expected to perform volunteer hours.
