There are various opportunities organized by NOVA to recognize the contributions of students for their leadership, community service and academic achievements.
Scholarships
All Academic Team Awards
The Office of Student Activities promotes and organizes the campus nominations for the national All Academic Team Scholarship Program. This national scholarship program, co-sponsored by the Coca-Cola Foundation, the AACC, Phi Theta Kappa and USA Today, honors nearly 400 students from community colleges across the country. Each campus is allowed to nominate two outstanding students for this scholarship competition.
Campus Ministry’s Emmett C. Cooke Scholarship
The Office of Student Activities advertises and nominates outstanding student leaders for the Emmett C. Cooke Scholarship and Social Justice Award, managed by United College Ministries in Northern Virginia.
Recommendation Letters for Scholarships
Recommendation letters for students applying for various scholarships are available through the Office of Student Activities for any students on campus who have excelled academically and have participated in leadership and/or community service activities.
Recognition Awards
Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges
Students who have excelled academically and have participated in leadership and/or community service activities are nominated for the National Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges recognition program. A banquet is held for the nominees of all six NOVA campuses in April of each year.
VCCS Team Innovation Award
The Virginia Community College System presents awards for outstanding student team innovation projects, during the annual VCCS Student Leadership Conference. Student organizations on campus are encouraged to submit applications for this statewide recognition and the Office of Student Activities is available for advisement.
Annual Student Leaders Appreciation Luncheon
The Student Activities Office, together with the Student Government Association and the Campus Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) organizes an annual luncheon or dinner ceremony at the campus to honor all student leaders at the Alexandria Campus and award certificates and gifts of appreciation.
