English as a Second Language

In the English as a Second Language (ESL) program, students from around the world learn the language skills that they need to succeed in the American academic environment. Our student body is made up of both immigrants and international students who are in the United States on student visas.

Through reading, writing and speaking classes, students become familiar with the standards expected in the highest levels of the American education system.

Our program prepares students for academic credit classes, certificate programs and degree programs. Many of the students who have completed our program have graduated with AA or AS degrees from NOVA. Others have gone on to four-year universities uncluding George Mason University and the University of Virginia.
