Event Description Benefits of rubrics for faculty are that they help clarify hard to explain goals; make grading easier and faster, as well as more accurate and consistent; and provide useful feedback to faculty on the effectiveness of instruction.
The Office of Institutional Research, Planning, and Assessment (OIR) is offering a 90 minute workshop on developing and using rubrics to enhance teaching and student learning. Rubrics are a valuable tool for student learning, performance assessment (papers, projects, field experiences, performances, presentations, capstone experiences, etc.), and SLO assessment.
Benefits of rubrics for students are that they help students understand what is expected and become better judges of the quality of their work, show students how their work will be evaluated, and they provide students with more informative feedback about their strengths and areas in need of improvement.
Benefits of using rubrics for SLO assessment are that they break down assignment scores into smaller categories which help to identify areas of strengths and weakness within the SLO that can be used to determine actions for improvement. |
