Adult Career Pathways

The Adult Career Pathways (ACP) program is an academic advising service free to NOVA students. ACP provides adult students with a structured support system specifically designed to assist with navigating the unique challenges that adults face while attending college. Participants receive support and guidance through each step of their college experience. The key to ACP’s success is it's student-centered model, which builds an ongoing relationship between students and their counselors, faculty members and peers. ACP creates a pathway for adult students to earn a certificate, degree or other credential that may help them secure a better job with a path toward advancement and greater economic security.

Individuals

The first step in applying for the Adult Career Pathways (ACP) program is attending one of our College Access Workshops. During the workshops students are:

  • given an overview of the ACP program,
  • assisted with enrolling at NOVA and applying for financial aid,
  • provided with placement testing information,
  • and given the opportunity to apply for ACP.

Workshops are held at least twice a month. To view the schedule and register, click here, call 703.425.5245, or email acp@nvcc.edu.

Businesses

Program Outreach
Does your organization serve or employ individuals who may be interested in participating in our program? Adult Career Pathways staff members will gladly come to your site and hold an Informational Session for your staff or clientele.

Internships
Interested in sponsoring an internship for an ACP student at no cost to your organization? ACP seeks to match students with internships in their STEM field of study. Provide a student with valuable workplace experience, something to add to their resume, and a step in the right direction.

Scholarships
Without financial aid, the dream of post-secondary education would not be possible for a majority of ACP students. If your organization is interested in providing funding for scholarships and making a difference in a student’s life, please contact us.

If you are interested in talking with us further about any of the options above, call 703.425.5245 or email acp@nvcc.edu.

eIntern

eIntern is leading the way in providing valuable job-ready skills and much desired work experience to students while enrolled in school. Its award-winning eInternship platform allows students to complete an internship for credit without sacrificing time and space. eInternships are unpaid, but students can use their experience as work experience and will own their work.

eInternships are managed, monitored and mentored to ensure students receive the same support and feedback as a conventional internship. Merging the touch and resilience of human intelligence with the power of machine intelligence, students will experience a learning environment that maximizes their ability to grasp complex, advanced technologies.

Each eInternship will present tasks and challenges that mirror the life of a professional software engineer. Students will be trained on technologies and tools to accomplish the tasks, overcome challenges, and truly test a student’s ability to develop enterprise-level IT projects. In completing the eInternship, students will be assigned a mentor who will provide guidance and support. In mastering the new technologies and tools, students will gain valuable work experience highly sought after in the industry and an online portfolio with their work to showcase their accomplishments.

With eIntern’s comprehensive algorithms, students will be able to visually identify strengths and weaknesses, drilled down to individual technologies and tools. Students can contribute to their online portfolio with additional experience, class projects, certifications, and work history to replace the conventional resume and offer interested employers a more detailed look at what each applicant can offer.
