Welcome

Welcome to Biology on the Annandale campus of Northern Virginia Community College. In biology, living things are "placed under the microscope" and examined from a molecular, cellular, organismic and ecological perspective. Emphasis is placed on a scientific approach to problem solving and on the dependence of living organisms on each other and their physical environment. In this age of biology and biotechnology, an understanding of biological principles is vital to developing and maintaining educated and scientifically literate citizens capable of dealing effectively and rationally with a multitude of problems both locally and globally.

Courses may be taken to fulfill a science requirement, a special interest or to obtain an Associate in Science Degree with a biology emphasis. Training in biology provides the basis for entry into a variety of careers including dentistry, forestry, horticulture, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, research, teaching, wildlife management, etc.
