Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cost of tutoring through the Tutoring Center or Math Center?
As a NOVA student, you may receive tutoring in the Math Center at no cost by appointment or on a walk-in basis. Tutors may not be available for your subject. Please call if you have any questions.
How do I make an appointment to get some help in my class?
Appointments must be made in person or by phone two to three days in advance. Only one hour of tutoring each week per class is allowed, unless a student has accommodations. Appointments are only for math courses.
It's been a while since I've taken math and I have to take the Math Placement Test. Can I get a tutor to help me review?
You may use the materials in the Math Center, but tutoring is reserved for our current math students. There are thousands of students taking math classes here at Annandale and not enough tutors to extend the program to those not in a class.
My professor will give me extra credit for visiting and working in the Math Center. How do I prove that I've been there?
The Math Center staff will provide you with a "Math Center Time Sheet" to present each time you study in the room. The sheet will be dated and stamped by a Math Center staff member when you leave as proof that you have visited. It is your responsibility to hold on to the sheet and turn it in to your professor for the extra points.
I have a final exam this week and I would like to come to the Math Center for tutoring. What is the best time to come?
Our student tutors are unavailable for tutoring during the last two weeks of the semester. You may still use the videos or computer programs in the Math Center. The tables are also available for your studies.
The Math Center is not open late at night when I'm doing my homework. If I have a question, what can I do?
