About the Language Center

The Language Center assists students studying foreign languages at NOVA Annandale by providing them with resources and technology to improve their listening and speaking skills in the language(s) being studied.

Who Are the Language Center Staff?

Brian Adler

Brian AdlerHi, my name is Brian and I supervise the Language Center. I encourage students to learn more about what the language center has to offer by paying us a visit and meeting some of the tutors. We are here to help and have a lot of resources to aid you with improving your language abilities. Please take advantage of our resources and ask us any questions you might have.

Virginia Oman

Virginia OmanMy name is Virginia Oman. I am a native Spanish speaker who enjoys foreign languages. I have lived in many foreign lands and I am very interested in other cultures. I am currently studying at NOVA and want a career as an interpreter. I greatly enjoy teaching Spanish and sharing my knowledge about Spanish culture. As a tutor, I look forward to helping students excel in their understanding and use of the Spanish language.

Hyojin Shin

Hyojin ShinHello, everyone. My name is Hyojin Shin, a lab assistant at the language center. Since I was an international student, I often come here to ask the tutors for help and use a variety of software programs. The tutors and the programs are really helpful for me, so I strongly recommend you come here and take advantage of the resources as much as you can. If you have any questions, please let me know. Alia AliHi everybody, My name is Alia Ali. I am an Arabic tutor and I am interested in meeting people from different countries and cultures. Arabic is my mother tongue, so you are more than welcome to ask for help and I am happy to help you! I recommend you come the language center if you are struggling and need help with Arabic, the place where tutors and staff are so friendly and very helpful!

Lia Cheon

Alia AliHi, my name is Lia Cheon. I am a Korean tutor as well as a lab assistant at the Language Center, who enjoys working with people from different countries. As I'm learning other languages, I learned it is very helpful having someone to practice with and to get help from. At this Language Center, you will benefit from having nice and friendly tutors, who will assist and improve your language skills. Alia AliHey everyone, My name is Nora Elshiekh. I am from Egypt, but I was born and raised in America for my childhood and middle school years. I love to eat (a lot) but I am also into fitness and health so you might see me at the gym all the time or eating all the time. I love to laugh and talk. That is my thing. I want to double major in psychology and athletic training. I love reading and learning new things. I want to be successful and have the power and knowledge to help others all around this world.
