The Library mission is to promote the general informational, cultural, vocational and recreational needs of the students, staff and faculty as well as the community as a whole. The library also serves to promote the professional growth and development of the College's faculty and staff.

National Information Literacy Awareness Month
NOVA Libraries are joining other libraries, museums and educational institutions across the nation in promoting October as National Information Literacy Awareness month. In today’s digital world, people who are information literate know how to find, access, and critically evaluate information to improve their health, their environment, their education and workplace performance. Having that skill set empowers them to interpret and make informed decisions about their lives, in essence, taking more responsibility for their own individual welfare and that of the nation.

“Every day, we are inundated with vast amounts of information. A 24-hour news cycle and thousands of global television and radio networks, coupled with an immense array of online resources, have challenged our long-held perceptions of information management. Rather than merely possessing data, we must also learn the skills necessary to acquire, collate, and evaluate information for any situation. This new type of literacy also requires competency with communication technologies, including computers and mobile devices that can help in our day-to-day decision making. National Information Literacy Awareness Month highlights the need for all Americans to be adept in the skills necessary to effectively navigate the Information Age.”
