comedy and tragedy line

Welcome

SPD (Speech and Drama) is a combination of two academic fields, speech communication and theatre arts (drama).

Speech Communication courses allow students to become more familiar with and competent in the process of transmitting and receiving messages in public and interpersonal contexts.

We study how people construct meaning as senders and receivers of messages, options for sending messages, and the effects these messages have upon others.

Our faculty consists of highly-respected professional communicators including six full-time professors and a full-complement of expert adjunct faculty members.

Courses in Theatre assist students in exploring the fields of acting, directing, stage production, film and appreciation for the dramatic arts.

Five SPD Courses are a part of the college's General Education requirements. The following courses meet the oral communication requirement (for graduation):

Principles of Public Speaking (also available through ELI)
Introduction to Speech Communication (also available on-line through ELI)
Small Group Communication
Interpersonal Communication
bullet SPD 227 Business and Professional Communication
Intercultural Communication

Check with your Curriculum Major to see which course is recommended to you.
