The Liberal Arts Division of the Annandale Campus of Northern Virginia Community College enhances and supports the mission of Northern Virginia Community College and the Virginia Community College System.

The Liberal Arts Division accomplishes this enhancement and support through the delivery of high quality comprehensive associate degree and certificate programs, as well as providing discipline support for every other program on campus in areas such as social science, music, art, speech communication, physical education and recreation and parks. Students benefit from our excellence in instruction and advisement, which assists them in achieving their academic, professional and personal goals.

Division Dean Message

Welcome to the Liberal Arts Division web page at the Annandale Campus of Northern Virginia Community College. The Division offers courses in anthropology, art, economics, geography, history, music, philosophy, physical education, political science, psychology, religion, sociology, and speech communication that support the general education requirement. The Division offers an Associate in Arts Degree, and an Associate in Applied Arts Degree. A Liberal Arts Associate in Arts Degree an Art History, International Studies, Music, Philosophy, Psychology, Religion and Speech Communication Specializations are offered. In addition an Associate in Applied Arts Degree in Music and a Jazz/Popular Music Specialization are offered. An Associate in Applied Science Degree in Recreation and Parks and Career Studies Certificates in Drivers Education and Fitness are also obtainable.

With forty two full time faculty members, approximately seventy adjuncts and six staff members, the Liberal Arts Division is probably one of the most diversified at Annandale. With many years of experience, our faculty are some of the most dedicated, outstanding instructors you will find on the campus. They use a multitude of instructional methods which include power point presentations, field trips, on-line instruction and courses offered through the Extended Learning Institute (ELI).
