Shelter-in-Place Procedures

General Instructions for All Occupants of building:

Occupants will be notified by Emergency Building or Floor Wardens or Police Personnel of the need to proceed to the Shelter-in-Place location. The location will be identified by individual making the announcement and/or by signs (permanent signage is in progress).

In the event of the need to report to the Shelter-in-Place Location, occupants should:

  • Secure all items (safe, files, etc.) if possible.
  • Take personal belongings with you.
  • If you are the last person out, close doors behind you.
  • Go to the location you are told.
  • Assist in accounting for persons who were with your class or group.
  • Obey the instructions of your Building and Floor Warden and Police Officers

NOTE: If Designated Shelter-in-Place locations are not yet identified, please use interior areas (safe from broken glass) - interior classrooms and bathrooms are usually ideal locations if necessary. Areas of Rescue (places where occupants can await evacuation assistance) ARE NOT Shelter-in-Place locations.
