Designated Locations

The following table reflects four 'designated locations' for each building (from the Emergency Preparedness Plan). Designated Locations are defined as:

  1. Evacuation Assembly Point - a place at least 25 meters exterior to the building where all the individuals evacuating are supposed to meet so a relatively accurate check can be made of whom might still be in the building. It is a pre-agreed location that all the faculty, students and staff know about. Once at the Evacuation Assembly Point, faculty can 'sort out' the class groups may be formed and staff groups can gather. There is a different Evacuation Assembly Point for each Building; any building may subdivide assembly points but no greater than one per floor.
  2. Areas of Rescue - place(s) where individuals who are unable to evacuate to the Evacuation Assembly Point for any reason may seek shelter until rescue/assistance can be rendered. The locations are to be designated on each Building's floor that has no horizontal access to a 25 meter point exterior to the building.
  3. Shelter-in-Place Locations - place(s) where individuals within the building can go to seek protection if we receive warning of an impending hurricane or similar event. The Shelter-in-Place locations are for short term safety (less than one hour). The locations are to be safe from shattered glass, usually located interior to the building, any floor in a concrete and steel structure. Shelter-in-Place locations are not to be stocked with food, water or first aid supplies, they are meant for brief use.
  4. Warden Assembly Point - place where the Emergency Floor Wardens meet and report status to the Building Warden. Also serves as location for police and other campus first responders and Emergency Response Coordinator representatives to meet with Building Wardens for communication as necessary.
