Application for Admission: If you have never taken any kind of class at Northern Virginia Community College, you must first complete the VCCS Application for Admission.  In this process, you will be assigned a number that will function as your Student ID for all future transactions with the college.  There are two ways to complete this application. You may fill out the application online at http://www.nvcc.edu, or you can print out and complete the application form and submit it to the Continuing Education Office by mail, fax or in person.  This must be completed before registering for any CE class.  If you mail or fax an application to our office, please confirm the processing of your application before attempting to register on the Web.

If it has been more than three years since you’ve taken classes at NOVA, you’ll need to submit a new application, using your current student ID #, to update your records before attempting to register.

Registration: Registration is continuous from April 1st throughout the Summer Semester. To avoid being inconvenienced, register and pay for your course as soon as possible prior to the class start date.  Also, registering early may prevent the disappointment of a cancelled or closed class.

Web Registration: You may register for most Continuing Education classes on the web using your credit card.  This requires the use of your Student ID number.  If you do not know your ID number, please contact our office at (703) 323-3168 and we will assist you.  Once you have your ID number you can go directly to the Annandale Campus Continuing Education website, www.nvcc.edu/annandale/continuing, click on Summer 2008 Courses under Continuing Education Courses, and then click on the course title of your choice. Fill out the online registration form linked to that page. When submitted, it will be processed by CE Office Staff and your credit card payment information will be sent directly to the Annandale Campus Business Office. Your birth date will be used for registration purposes only.

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and remains open until the class maximum is met. In the event a class is completely full, contact the CE Office at (703) 323-3168 for assistance.

Payment
Payment for Continuing Education courses is due at the time of registration. If you attend class without paying, you will be held financially responsible for the tuition.  Payment can be made by using your credit card on the Web or by paying with check or cash at the Annandale Campus Business Office during their regular hours of operation.  They are located in CG 220. Their normal business hours are 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. They can be reached at (703) 323-3132.  If this is inconvenient for you, you may also mail in a check with your registration form.  Cash and check payments will be accepted by the Continuing Education Staff in CE 202 only when the Business Office is closed.  Cash payments require exact change. You are not allowed to audit or sit in classes for which you have not paid.

Questions About Classes
If you have questions about Continuing Education classes, please call us at (703) 323-3168 or TDD# (703) 323-3744, before you register.

Third Party Payment
If your tuition is to be paid by a third party (employer, government agency, foreign embassy, etc.), you must submit a letter of authorization or purchase order from the third party at the time of registration, with the understanding that you accept responsibility for full payment of the tuition if the third party does not pay. This information may be submitted in person, by mail or fax. You may not register using one form of payment and then switch to third party payment for that class at a later date.

Refunds and Cancelled Classes
You will receive prompt notification of course changes and cancellations by telephone. Please make sure that we have up-to-date contact information for you in our system.  In the unlikely event that your course is cancelled, you will automatically receive a full refund.  If you are unable to attend a course that has not been cancelled, you are eligible to receive a full refund only if you call our office a minimum of 4 days before the starting date of the first scheduled class meeting. There will be no refund after this time.  Refunds are processed through state offices in Richmond. A check will be sent to your mailing address within four to six weeks.

Accommodations for Persons with Disabilities
NOVA is committed to providing an accessible education and a supportive learning environment for all students, including those with documented disabilities.  If you require special services or accommodation, you must contact the NOVA Counselor for Students with Disabilities in CG 211at least four weeks prior to the start of class. To qualify for these services, you must provide clear, specific evidence that a qualified professional has established a formal diagnosis of disability.  Except in certain cases, the documentation can be no older than three (3) years. All information obtained in the diagnostic and medical reports will be maintained and used in accordance with applicable confidentiality requirements.

Awarding of CEU’s
You may earn CEU’s (Continuing Education Units) for many Continuing Education courses.  Registered CE students must attend 90% of all scheduled class hours, in addition to completing any other requirements set by the instructor, in order to be awarded CEU’s and a Certificate of Completion.

Senior Citizens' Registration
Residents of Virginia, who have lived in the state for a minimum of one year,  and are 60 years of age or older, are welcome to participate tuition-free in most non-credit courses, on a space-available basis as determined by the College. You are limited to three non-credit courses per semester, and you must pay any other non-tuition fees associated with those courses. If you have never taken a course at NOVA, you must first apply to the college (see details above) and then come in person to the Continuing Education Office to present proof of age and fill out a Senior Citizen Certification of Eligibility for Free Tuition form.  Once the necessary paperwork has been submitted, you must call (703) 323-3168 one working day before the class meets to determine if space is available. In courses with limited space and large demand, the order in which telephone calls are received on that day determines admission to the course. To guarantee a place in a class, payment is required. A senior who has already made payment for a particular course may not reverse that registration to free tuition at a later time.

Parking Instructions and Classroom Location
THERE IS NO FREE PARKING ON THE ANNANDALE CAMPUS. All students wishing to park vehicles on campus are required to pay for parking. CE students will have the choice of paying $1/hr. (cash only) in the parking garage (enter on the lower level), or purchasing a semester permit for $65.00. The permit allows you to park in any of the Student (B) Lots on campus. If you wish to purchase a semester parking permit, you can do so using the College website, https://parking.nvcc.edu, or purchase it directly from the Parking Services Office in CG 226. If you have questions, Parking Services can be reached at (703) 323-4267. Parking permits are not required for the Center for Employee Development (CED).

To find the building in which your class will be held, please consult the maps for the Annandale Campus and/or the Center for Employee Development, or call our office at (703) 323-3168. A location of "CED" means that your class will be held at the Center for Employee Development, 7630 Little River Tnpk., 5th or 6th floor, Annandale, VA.  This location is 1.5 miles east of the Annandale Campus.  The phone number is (703) 323-3102.  (Please be aware that for security purposes, the entrance to this building is locked at 7:00 p.m. on weekdays, and is not unlocked until 9:00 a.m. on Saturdays.)
