An initiative of NOVA to Serve the Small Business Community.

 

The Purpose of the Business Opportunity Center

The Business Opportunity Center (BOC) from Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) is NOVA’s Workforce Development Continuing Education small business training and education initiative.  The purpose of the BOC is to develop small businesses in the Northern Virginia area with training programs designed to grow the business or to start a business.

To achieve its purpose, the BOC currently offers the BOC SWaM Program and the BOC Entrepreneur Roadmap.  The BOC SWaM Program consists of a series of open enrollment classes designed to help small, women and minority-owned (SWaMs) expand their market to Federal, State and Local Government procurement.  The BOC Entrepreneur Roadmap is designed to train and educate new entrepreneurs to successfully start a business.

Strategic Partners of the Business Opportunity Center

The BOC has developed strategic partnerships and relationships with: the US Small Business Administration – Washington DC office, US Department of Veteran Affairs, The Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Virginia Department of Business Assistance (VDBA),  Virginia Department of Minority Enterprises (DMBE), Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT)/ Community Resource Board, the Arlington Economic Development Bizlaunch, Fairfax County Economic Development Authority, Henrico County Purchasing Department, Loudoun County Department of  Economic Development, and Business Development Assistance Group.

In addition, the BOC has also developed relationships with: Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), Lockheed Martin, Fluor-Lane LLC, Winnings Ways Inc., Sandoval and Keng PLLC, McManis & Monsalve Assoc, Turner Construction Company, Administaff Inc, The Growth Coach, Nationwide Insurance, Barrett Industries and United Central Bank.  These are just some of the local businesses serving as mentors in the NOVA SWaM mentoring program.
