If the class you wanted is full, contact the Continuing Education staff for assistance at 703.323.3168. To make sure you get the course you really want, register and pay for it as soon as possible.

Questions About Classes
If you have questions about Continuing Education classes, please call us at 703.323.3168 or TDD# 703.323.3744, before you register.

Third Party Payment
If your tuition is being paid by a third party (employer, government agency, foreign embassy, etc.), you should submit a letter of authorization or purchase order from the third party with your  registration, with the understanding that you accept responsibility for full payment of the tuition if the third party does not pay. These forms can be submitted in person, by mail or fax. Our fax number is 703.323.3399. When faxing forms, please type or use black ink. You cannot register using one form of payment and switch to third party payment for that class at a later date.

Cancelled Classes and Refunds
You’ll receive prompt telephone notification of course changes and/or cancellations. Please make sure we have up-to-date contact information for you. If we cancel a class, you’ll automatically receive a full refund.  If you’re unable to attend a course, you’re eligible to receive a full refund if you call our office a minimum of 4 days before the starting date of the first scheduled class session – 703.323.3168. A refund check will be sent to your mailing address within two to four weeks.

Accommodations for Persons with Disabilities
NOVA is committed to providing an accessible education and a supportive learning environment for all students, including those with documented disabilities.  If you require special services or accommodation, you need to contact the NVCC Counselor for Students with Disabilities in CG 211 at least four (4) weeks prior to the start of class.  To qualify for these services, you must provide clear, specific evidence that a qualified professional has established a formal diagnosis of disability.  All information obtained in the diagnostic and medical reports will be maintained and used in accordance with applicable confidentiality requirements.

Earning CEUs
You can earn CEUs (Continuing Education Units) for many Continuing Education courses. Registered CE students must attend 90% of all scheduled class hours, in addition to completing any other requirements set by the instructor, in order to be awarded CEUs and a Certificate of Completion.

Senior Citizens’ Continuing Education Registration Information
If you’re a resident of Virginia who is 60 years of age or older, and you have lived in the state for a minimum of one year, you’re welcome to participate tuition-free in most non-credit courses on a space-available basis as determined by the College.

You’re limited to 3 non-credit courses per semester, and you must pay any other non-tuition fees associated with those courses.

If you have never taken a course at NOVA or any other Virginia Community College, you must first apply to the college in order to be assigned a student ID number. This can be done on the NOVA web site: www.nvcc.edu. Our office staff will be happy to assist you with applying or finding an existing ID number.

When you have a student ID number, then you must come in person to the Continuing Education Office to present proof of age – driver’s license or passport - and fill out a Senior Citizen Certification of Eligibility for Free Tuition form. A new form must be completed for each semester. The form will be kept on file in our office and used when you have been accepted into a course.

Once your form is on file with our office, you should call (703) 323-3168 one working day before the desired course starts to find out if space is available. Seniors are admitted to available spaces by the order in which calls are received on that day.

You may call as early as 7:00 am one working day before the class begins and leave a voice mail message. Messages left before that time will not be accepted. (Please understand that due to the large number of phones in the office, it takes many rings before the voice mail feature comes on.)

Our office is extremely busy, so it may take us until the afternoon of that day to get back to you with an answer. Please be patient.

To guarantee a place in a course, payment is required. A senior who has already made payment for a particular course may not reverse that registration to free tuition at a later time.

It is important for seniors to understand that our program receives no tax dollars from the state, and we are entirely self-supporting. Also, we pay a 30% overhead to the college for services. As a result, our instructors are paid a percentage of the course income from paying students, and receive no extra salary for teaching seniors. In fairness to them, we try not to overload their classes with non-paying students. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Parking on Campus
Our students have the choice of paying $1/hr. (cash only) in the parking garage (enter on the lower level), or purchasing a semester permit for $75. The permit allows you to park in any of the B (Student) Lots on campus. If you’d like to purchase a semester parking permit, you can do so online at https://parking.nvcc.edu, or buy it directly from the Parking Services Office in CG 226. Parking Services can be reached at 703.323.4267. Parking permits are not required at the Center for Employee Development (CED).

Finding Your Classroom

To find the building in which your class will be held, please check your receipt. A location of “CED” means your class will be held at the Center for Employee Development - 7630 Little River Tnpk. in Annandale. This is 1.5 miles east of the Annandale Campus.  The phone number is 703.323.3102.  (Please be aware that for security purposes, the entrance to this building is locked at 7:00 p.m. on weekdays, and is not open until 9:00 a.m. on Saturdays.)

Weather Policy
If the college is closed due to inclement weather, all non-credit classes will be cancelled, and you will be notified of the make-up date for your class. College closings are announced on local radio and TV stations as well as on the college web site – www.nvcc.edu.
