NOVA | Annandale

Welcome to Northern Virginia Community College!
Here are the steps to get you started at the Annandale Campus

Apply for Admission

All new students must complete and submit an Application for Admissions. Mail this or take it in person to the Annandale Student Services Center, Godwin Building, Room 206. You may also complete and submit your Application for Admission online through NovaConnect, the student information system.

Check on Placement Tests

Most new students should take the English placement test. A photo ID is required such as a driver's license or green card.  Allow approximately two hours for the test.  Students whose first language is not English will normally need to take the Accuplacer, English As A Second Language Placement Test.

If you have completed a college-level English course at another college, you may not have to take this test.

If you plan to take a math course, you will have to take a math test. Other courses, such as chemistry and physics, require math and English placement tests as well. You can check with the Counseling Center for more information regarding which tests you need. The Testing Center is located in the Godwin Building, Room 404.

See a Counselor

Counselors are available to assist you with selecting a program of study and/or choosing classes. If you have taken courses at another college, a counselor will help you to see how these courses may apply to a program at NOVA.  If you have attended another college, it is helpful to bring in an official transcript or grade reports for this initial advising.

The college has a wide variety of courses and degree programs which include programs that are designed to transfer and career programs. These are described in the College Catalog as well as information about college policies, college resources, course descriptions, etc. The catalog can also be purchased at any NOVA campus bookstore

To assist you in your transition to college, we have Student Development CoursesCounseling Center Workshops and services that are designed to help you with your educational, career and life planning.  We've designed a one-credit course called SDV 100 - Orientation. Annandale Campus Student Development courses are listed under the Student Development heading  in the current Schedule of Classes. Class meeting times for SDV - Orientation are scheduled in both the day and evening.

These courses and workshops are designed to help you in making career and life planning decisions, refining study skills necessary for college success, assisting you with college transfer issues and building student leadership skills.

Students with disabilities are encouraged to contact the Counselor for Disabilities to determine what assistance and accommodations are available for you. Financial Aid is available for students who qualify.

Select Classes & Make a Schedule

If you did not receive a Schedule of Classes in the mail you will need to pick one up at an NOVA campus or use the one on the web.  A current Schedule of Classes and a current NOVA catalog (also available at the Campus Bookstores) are needed to plan your schedule.

Class times and locations for all five campuses and ELI are listed in the Schedule of Classes, which is available approximately two months before the beginning of each semester. Student activated computers and class monitors are available for your use to check for class availability at all campuses. You can search for class availability online through NovaConnect from any computer with an Internet connection and an Interest browser.

Register for Classes

Class times and locations are listed in the print and web Schedule of Classes and in the NovaConnect student information system.

The Schedule of Classes includes all instructions and forms needed for registration. Check the current class schedule for dates and times of registration. Then use NovaConnect Web to register online or NovaConnect Phone at (703) 323-3770 or (703) 330-3770 (Prince William County) to register by telephone. Always remember to register early for the best selection of classes.

Pay for Classes

Tuition payment is due at the time of registration unless you have chosen to use the FACTS Tuition Payment Plan. You have several ways to pay. See Methods of Payment for details.

Tuition is required for credit courses, developmental courses, ESL courses and courses being audited. Tuition rates are printed in the Schedule of Classes. Tuition Deadlines are listed on the NOVA web site. Payment of tuition entitles you to use the library, bookstore, student lounge and other facilities of the college except parking. There are no special library fees.

Get Copy/Receipt of Your Course Schedule

You can get a Web Payment Confirmation and a copy of your registration schedule by using NovaConnect Web. You can also check your classes and payment status but not get a receipt with NovaConnect Phone. You must go to a campus Business Office to get a print receipt if you registered through NovaConnect Phone or registered in person. The Business Offices CANNOT reprint a Web Payment Confirmation. Remember to check your receipt for any errors. Make sure you are registered for the proper courses at the right days, times and campus locations. You are responsible for making sure your registration is correct.

Textbooks are purchased in the Annandale Campus Bookstores. Parking permits are available online and at campus business or police offices.
