Why Donors Should Make a Gift
The Foundation supports and promotes the College by building relationships with individuals, businesses, and foundations in our community to fund a number of areas that impact the lives of our students and our community. Donor's gifts will assist NVCC to provide superior educational opportunities. There are many ways to support Northern Virginia Community College. Most donors make gifts and pledge payments by check, credit card, or automatic bank drafts. Some donors contribute gifts-in-kind, such as works of art or rare books and manuscripts for the library. Others incorporate gifts into their financial and estate planning. We have a wide range of giving options to make it easy for our donors to maximize their gifts.
Types of Gifts
Unrestricted gifts are often considered the most powerful form of private support because no limitations exist on how the gifts are to be used. Unrestricted funds help the Board meet the college's most pressing needs. They are particularly vital for initiatives and projects for which other sources of funding may be unavailable or inadequate. In-kind contributions consist of non-monetary goods or services that the Foundation receives from corporations, individuals or other foundations. In kind gifts can only be accepted if they support current or future academic programs or technology. Examples of in-kind gifts are equipment, such as computer hardware, software, laboratory instrumentation, and use of facilities. The value of in-kind gifts is based on market value at the time of giving. It is the donor's responsibility to value the gift-in-kind. The Foundation cannot legally do so.
