Summer Musical To view Calendar of Events click on the link to your left. The first season of the Summer Musical in 2002 kicked off with West Side Story, followed by Grease in 2003 and The Rocky Horror Show in 2004. Beauty and the Beast was the feature production for the 2005 season. This was founded to provide students with an opportunity to develop their talents in Acting and Theatre Workshop classes and to realize their performance potential on the Schlesinger Center Stage. To participate in the Summer Musical, students sign up for one or more credit classes or for non-credit classes through Continuing Education and Workforce Development (CEWD). Participants are awarded either college credit in Speech/Drama (SPD) or non-credit CEUs. Everyone who signs up for a Summer Musical class is guaranteed a role in the production, although the acting parts are assigned through a competitive audition. Classes and auditions begin during the first week of NOVA’s summer session – usually in mid-May – and the performances are held during the first or second week in August. Performances are open to the public and attract a substantial audience from the community.
