| Dr. Brenda Lewis-Holmes holds a B. A. Degree in Speech and Drama, M.A. Degree in Speech Communication, and a Ph. D. in Adult Education. She has directed and/or produced over 80 musicals and plays. Her play credits include 'A Raisin in the Sun', 'Splendor in the Grass', 'Plaza Suite', 'Picnic', 'The lonesome Train', 'House of Blue Leaves', 'Several Greek Tragedies', 'All My Sons', 'Curious Savage', 'Harvey', 'Betrayal', 'The Bad Seed', 'Little Women', 'The Man Who Came to Dinner', 'You Can't Take It With You', 'Barefoot in the Park', 'You Know I Can't Hear You When the Water's Running', and 'Hedda Gabler'. Among the musicals Dr. Lewis-Holmes has directed are 'The Wizard of Oz', 'The Sound of Music', 'Fiddler on the Roof, Li'l Abner', 'You're a Good Man Charlie Brown', and 'The Wiz'. Her showcase scenes have included 'Medea', 'Painting Churches', 'The Colored Museum', 'Rose Tattoo', 'Miss Reardon Drinks a Little', and 'Twenty Seven Wagons of Cotton'. Before joining the faculty at Northern Virginia Community College, she was a member of the D.C. Black Repertory Theatre Company. She enjoys reading, watching old horror movies, exercising, dancing, and decorating homes. |

| COURSES TAUGHT | ||
| SPD 131 Acting I (3 credits) Introduction to the study of acting with in-class performances including improvisation, pantomine, solo scenes and group ensemble work. Emphasis on basic techniques and disciplines. Eases beginners into the creative field of acting. |
SPD 110 (3 credits) Study of effective communication with emphasis on speaking and listening in interpersonal, small group and public communication settings. Focus on the "big picture" in communication. |

| SPD 132 Acting II (3 credits) This course emphasizes advanced acting skills. Students work on dramatic monologues and a full length stage production. |
