Course Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students should be able to:
1. Understand the physiological benefits of physical activity, and knowledge of healthy living through wellness.
2. Define principles involved in increasing and maintaining physical fitness.
3. Evaluate and apply fitness and wellness concepts to individual lifestyles.
4. Participate in exercise and wellness activities.
Textbook: Thomas Fahey, Paul Insel, Walton Roth, Fit and Well: Sixth Edition.
(alternate edition) McGraw Hill Publishing Co., 2005. If possible, purchase
a new book with 2 CD’s.
Requirements
Exams (100 points)
A midterm and a final exam will be given on the chapters assigned. The exams
will be multiple choice. You will need a Scantron and a pencil for the exams.
If a test is missed due to an extreme emergency the instructor must be notified
by phone or email.
Lab Assignments (50 points)
All lab reports are to be completed and handed in at the beginning of class
in a thin 3-ringed binder. If you miss class the assignment will get half credit.
All labs performed a week before are due the week assigned in the class schedule.

Looking Ahead” Statements (20 points)
1. Read the chapters and answer the study questions listed under “Looking Ahead” on the first page of each chapter. Write brief but comprehensive statements that will help you review for the exams. (Not more than one page per chapter.)
2. Assignments due for chapters 1-6 before the midterm exam, chapters 7-11 due before the final exam. If not taking the midterm, all are due at the next to last class.
Nutrition Analysis (20 points)
1. Log all you eat and drink for one day.
2. Run computer program on your FoodWise CD-rom. See instruction sheet.
3. Complete nutrition analysis worksheet based on computer printout. Answer questions on FoodWise questionnaire.
4. Turn in FoodWise questionnaire, and computer printout.
5. Check assignment sheet for due dates
6. Alternate lab assignments 8.1-8.3 in Fit and Well textbook.

Written summary of a related article from a website online. Print the article
and underline the important points. Summarize the article in your own words
in one paragraph, and tell why it is of importance to you in a second paragraph.
Turn in the article with the summary.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the terminology of this course, it is strongly recommended that students be proficient in reading and understanding the English language. Tutors are available through counseling, if needed.

Emergency Evacuation procedures:
Know the exit route from each class. Roll will be taken at the designated area

to succeed in this course. Try to read one to two chapters a week, work out
regularly, and don’t procrastinate!
