Robert Petrella is director of the Alexandria Campus Band and Professor of Music at NVCC. In 1995, he was a nominee for Outstanding Faculty of the year. He earned a Bachelor degree at Michigan State University and his Masters and Doctorate at the University of Maryland.

A clarinetist, Dr. Petrella is an active adjudicator and per-
former. He was a member of the U.S. Army Field Band of Washington, D.C. and performed with the group in 49 of the 50 states, Canada, and Mexico. He also performed as a soloist with the Michigan State University Alumni Band concert tours of Italy in 1985, Scandinavia in 1998, and Eastern Europe in 2001. Dr. Petrella currently performs with the nationally acclaimed Virginia Grand Military Band.
