mishrabiophotoSanjay Mishra received his AAA degree in Music from NVCC's Alexandria Campus. He then earned a Bachelor of Music from the Peabody Conservatory, where he was awarded a scholarship and studied with Ray Chester and Manuel Barrueco.

As composer/guitarist, Mr. Mishra's discography includes 4 CD's: Blue Incantation with the world-renowned guitarist, Jerry Garcia; Rescue;The Crossing; and the Soundtrack to Port Djema. These works have received outstanding reviews in The Washington Post, New York Post, Boston Globe, Los Angeles Times, Billboard, and Stereo Review, as well as major publications in Europe, Australia, Asia, New Zealand, Canada, South America, Eastern Europe, and India. His radio appearances include National Public Radio, American Public Radio, BBC Radio 1, and New Sounds.

Mr. Mishra was awarded "Best Score" for the film Port Djema at the Hamptons Film Festival chaired by Steven Spielberg. Other composer/ guitarist performance awards include the National Endowments for the Arts award in 1991.

Appearances as an educator and performer include lectures/recitals at Cornell, Syracuse and New York Universities; Peabody Conservatory; Metropolitan Museum, New York; the Universities of Virginia and Maryland; the Smithsonian Festival of India (Washington D. C.); National Gallery of Art; and, Library of Congress. He gave lectures/recitals in many area schools through Young Audiences Virginia from 1981-1984, and the CAPS Program of Virginia from 1984-1987.

Mr. Mishra currently teaches as Adjunct Faculty in Applied Music - Guitar, Basic Musicianship, and World Music. His teaching career dates from1984; locally he has taught in the Akar Studios and Levine School of Music.

Voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (Grammy).
