Dr.Wendy
Matthews, received her Bachelor of Music Degree from Peabody
Conservatory of Music, in Baltimore, MD, after which she earned
her Master of Music degree from the University of Maryland-College
Park and a doctorate from George Mason University concentrating in Educational Psychology
and Wind Band Conducting. Her research interests include the
learning and cognition of music and collective efficacy of performing
ensembles. Dr. Matthews also teaches trumpet at NVCC.
From 1995-2002, Ms Matthews
was the Director of Bands at Georgetown University. Under her
direction, the band completed it's first CD and was awarded
the Office of Performing Arts Special Directors Award for Outstanding
Student Group. In 2002, Dr. Matthews was the recipient of the
Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award at Georgetown University.
Dr.
Mattews has guest conducted on the local, regional, and national
level. Most recently, she has conducted at the
University of North Carolina at Greensboro Summer Music Camp
and the Hartt School of Music Wind Ensemble at the College Band
Directors National Association-Eastern Division Conference.
Dr. Matthews is a free-lance trumpeter and has performed with
the Alexandria Band, the Prince Georges Philharmonic, the Capital
Wind Symphony the National Concert Band of America and the National
Orchestral Institute.

Billie
Anderton, Violin/Viola
Billie
Anderton is a graduate of the Birmingham Conservatory of Music
where she studied with Ottakar Cadek. During graduate work at
American University she studied with Raphael Hillyer and Judith
Shapiro and coached with the Guarneri and Tokyo String Quartets.
She has played in the Birmingham, Norfolk, And Alexandria Symphonies
(as concert-master of the latter). Mrs. Anderton teaches privately
and at NOVA. She was first violinist of the Gailliard String
Quartet and Trio Capriccio. She plays violin and viola with
the Rock Creek Chamber Players and the Friday Morning Music
Club.

Sanjay Mishra received his AAA degree in Music
from NVCC's Alexandria Campus.
He then earned
a Bachelor of Music from the Peabody Conservatory,
where he was awarded a scholarship and studied
with Ray Chester and Manuel Barrueco.
As composer/guitarist, Mr. Mishra's discography includes 4 CD's: Blue Incantation with the world-renowned guitarist, Jerry Garcia; Rescue;The Crossing; and the Soundtrack to Port Djema. These works have received outstanding reviews in The Washington Post, New York Post, Boston Globe, Los Angeles Times, Billboard, and Stereo Review, as well as major publications in Europe, Australia, Asia, New Zealand, Canada, South America, Eastern Europe, and India. His radio appearances include National Public Radio, American Public Radio, BBC Radio 1, and New Sounds.
Mr. Mishra was awarded "Best Score" for the film Port Djema at the Hamptons Film Festival chaired by Steven Spielberg. Other composer/ guitarist performance awards include the National Endowments for the Arts award in 1991.
Appearances as an educator and performer include lectures/recitals at Cornell, Syracuse and New York Universities; Peabody Conservatory; Metropolitan Museum, New York; the Universities of Virginia and Maryland; the Smithsonian Festival of India (Washington D. C.); National Gallery of Art; and, Library of Congress. He gave lectures/recitals in many area schools through Young Audiences Virginia from 1981-1984, and the CAPS Program of Virginia from 1984-1987.
Michelle
Williams, Flute
Michelle
Williams graduated from Shenandoah College and Conservatory
of Music with a Bachelor of Science degree in Arts Management,
Spring 1990. Her applied major was flute. While in college,
she performed with a jazz combo, and flute ensemble, and gave
two recitals. She currently performs with the HOTS Jazz Orchestra,
and the Columbia Flute Choir and Orchestra. In addition, she
has played commercially throughout the US and in France, Israel,
Mexico, and New Zealand. Other classic performances include
the White House Christmas Tour, and the Kennedy Center as well
as flute and guitar duos and duo flute and clarinet. She is
a member of The National Flute Association, Inc. and The Flute
Society of Washington, Inc.
