198. Each section number listed in the Schedule of Classes will
indicate the specific course offered.
Counterpoint 3cr
Prerequisite - Music Theory 111, 112
This is a study of
18th Century Counterpoint. It includes two-part writing through
the five species, canons, the Invention and the 2 and 3 voice
Fugue. Students will learn to write in these parts and forms.
It is an excellent course for transfer credit to other music schools.
The class meets once a week for 2 hours plus one hour to be assigned.
Jazz Theory 3cr.
Prerequisite - Theory 111 and 112 or equivalent.
A theoretical study
of Jazz, including form, scales, and harmonic structures specific
to this genre, through analysis, composition, ear training, and
some performing skills. This course is a MUST for any one interested
in Jazz. The class meets once a week for 2 hours plus one hour
assigned ear training.
Piano Ensemble
1cr
Prerequisite - A semester or equivalent of piano study.
A study of piano duets
for not only four hands but also two pianos. Students are paired
of according to skill levels and prepare a group recital for the
end of the semester. This course is a great way of fulfilling
ensemble credits and it's fun! The class meets once a week for
1 1/2 hours.
World Music 3cr
A study of the ethnic
music of various cultures throughout the world and how it affects
modern music. This course includes demonstrations of some of the
ethnic instruments by performers from their respective countries.
This is a new offering as of Fall 2003.
Song Writing 3cr
A study of techniques
used in writing Rock and Roll and Popular music. It is based in
music of the 60's through the present. Lots of listening and great
fun! This class meets once a week for 2 1/2 hours.
