::: Why did you choose to enroll at Northern Virginia Community College?
Location was a major factor. NVCC’s campuses are all close to home (which for me is Falls Church). Other factors were the large student body and variety of extracurricular activities, which both allowed me to enrich my academic experience. The faculty and staff here at NVCC are very helpful and friendly. They immediately left a good first impression, which let me know that I had made the right decision by enrolling at the college.
::: What were your goals and objectives when you entered Northern Virginia Community College? Have they changed or expanded since your enrollment? How and why?
Education has always been exciting to me. I came to NVCC with the goal of broadening my knowledge and to seek the thrill of learning something new. With my education from NVCC, I have been able to take this new knowledge and apply it to my life and my work.
I can attribute much of my success at NVCC to the fabulous professors here at the college. Their teaching styles may differ, but they are bonded by a love of teaching and a desire to see their students succeed.
::: Describe the NVCC Experience.
NVCC is always new and fresh - new as it constantly improves its facilities and fresh as the student body is constantly changing with each semester. I regularly spot new faces, meet all kinds of people, and recognize changes in the campus. The NVCC experience has a lot to do with the students. Always friendly, they make up a diverse and welcoming community. My time on campus is always exciting.
::: What has been your favorite class here at NVCC, your favorite instructor and why?
Computer Organization (CSC 205) with Professor N V Fitton this semester has been marvelous. Professor Fitton is an approachable and knowledgeable professor who has both encouraged and guided me along in the many projects that I have decided to take up. She has gone to great lengths to make sure that everyone understands the material. Professor Fitton makes everyone feel comfortable, and works hard to help each of her students succeed.
::: How would you describe your experience as an officer within Student Activities at NVCC?
Many of the students here at NVCC work full-time in addition to taking classes at the college. Despite the fact that many of the students have incredibly busy schedules, there are so many people that are committed to extracurricular activities here in NVCC. As I meet new students, I always try to encourage them to take part in Student Activities.
Being an officer is a fun and involving task. In addition to meeting lots of people, I am able to learn more about the college and how it works. I regularly have the opportunity to use skills that I have learned in class. Best of all, I have the ability to help make a difference here at the college. Every student wants to make the most of his or her college experience. As an officer of Student Activities, I am able to help students to have the best college experience possible.
::: What advice would you give to a student considering attending NVCC?
Enroll! With its low tuition, NVCC is an incredible educational value. You would be surprised at how many hidden gems there are. Visit any of the computer labs (all full of the latest software and technology) and you’ll know what I mean. I think that the most important thing to remember is to be active in campus life - it makes your time so much more worthwhile.
