Alexandria Campus
Police Department

The
College Police Office is located in the Bisdorf Building in Room
AA240. Police personnel can be reached in one of many ways; by
dialing extension 16270 from any campus phone, by calling (703)
845-6270 from any outside or cellular telephone, by using one of the
many outside Emergency Call Boxes located throughout the campus parking
lots and along campus walkways, or by using any of the red Emergency
Phones located in the hallways of campus buildings. Please
remember the use of Emergency Call Boxes and Emergency Phones are
restricted to emergency situations. The campus community is
encouraged to program the College Police Department's phone number into
their cellular telephones in the event police assistance is needed
while on campus.
If you have a
life threatening emergency please call 911 first. Fire
and Rescue Services are provided by the City of Alexandria Fire and EMS
Department. After an emergency is reported to 911, make sure to
notify the College Police using one of the methods listed above so
officers may respond to the incident.
In the event of inclement weather, tune
to local media, contact NOVANET at (703) 323-3770 for recorded
information, or click
here for campus closings and delayed openings. You
are urged not to call the College Police Office for this information,
as officers can become extremely busy during periods of inclement
weather, and incoming phone lines should remain open for emergency
calls.
Speed Limits
The
speed limit on campus roadways is 25 MPH unless otherwise posted.
Please note several roadways on campus have posted speeds less than 25
MPH. The posted speed limits are for times when optimum
driving conditions are present. Please adjust your speed
accordingly during periods of inclement weather, reduced visibility,
and for heavy congestion or pedestrian traffic. College Police
Officers have the authority to issue summonses for violations of state
traffic laws.
Motor Vehicle Accidents
If
you are involved in a motor vehicle accident while on campus please
call the College Police. State Law requires all drivers to stop
at the scene, render aid if there are injuries, and report accidents to
the police. Vehicles should be moved from the travel lanes if safe to
do so and if there are no injuries. Click for more information.
Emergency Call Boxes/Emergency Phones
As
mentioned above, Emergency Call Boxes are located in campus parking
lots, parking garages, and along some campus walkways. Red
Emergency Phones are placed throughout the hallways in campus
buildings. Please use them to report emergencies only . Exterior
Emergency Call Boxes can be identified by a red or blue call box with a
blue light illuminated above the box ( at night ). Press the
button located on either the call box or the phones and wait for the
officer to respond to you before you talk. You must let go of the
button once it has been pushed so the officer may respond to you.
Lost and Found
The
College Police handle Lost and Found items on campus. If you have
lost and item or found something that someone else has lost, please
bring it by the College Police office, room 240, in the Bisdorf
Building. Inquiries about lost property may be made either in
person or by calling the College Police office at (703) 845-6270.
Please understand information on all items received by the College
Police are kept in a database in the police office, and when making
telephone inquiries the officer you speak with may be out of the office
on patrol or handling a call and not have information regarding the
property inventory readily available, therefore you may be asked to
call back at a later time. Keep in mind not all items lost on
campus will be turned in to the College Police. If you have lost
an item in the Tyler Building, the College Library, or any of the
Computer Labs on campus please begin the search for your property at
those locations, as the areas keep their own inventory of Lost and
Found items.
