1. The Military Site Office (MSO) of Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC),
Alexandria Campus (AL) will complete the evaluation of your military transcripts.
If you have completed at least one course with NVCC, you may request transcripts
at anytime. Please fill out the transcript request form which can be found on the
NVCC
website at www.nvcc.edu/forms/pdf/125-089.pdf
.
2. Once you have completed
the transcript request form you can bring the form into
the MSO, fax the form to the NVCC office at Ft. Myer (703) 696-0145 or take the completed
form to the Admissions and Records office of the AL Campus. Normal processing time for a
transcript request is between 5 and 7 workdays during non-registration periods and
7 to 14 days.
3. Please note, NVCC cannot produce an official transcript for you until you have completed
at least one course with NVCC. However, you may come into any of the MSO sites during their
posted work hours and the staff should be able to print out an unofficial copy, which can
be used as an educational counseling tool. The hours as well as other very useful information
can be found at the MSO's website WWW.NVCC.EDU/ALEXANDRIA/MILITARY
.
4. It is the policy of NVCC of not granting credit for vocational work which
may appear on
your military transcript, redundant credits that may be listed or credits for courses/MOSs
that may be listed on your transcript but you do not qualify for because you did not attend
the military school, or hold the MOS during the qualifying dates as indicated on your transcript.
Note: For members of the U.S. Army, Army Reserve, and Army National Guar. In addition to
the previous stated information, your SQT scores must meet the requirement for your MOS as well
as you must hold an MOS for a year before credit will be awarded. This is ACE policy. Therefore,
do not be surprised to find you may seem to have more credits on your AARTS then you really have.
5. The MSO will make every attempt to give all students the full amount of credits they deserve.
However, we will do this within NVCC and ACE requirements. If you think your evaluation has errors
or omissions please feel free to contact the main counseling department of the AL Campus and
schedule an appointment with the counselor of record for the degree plan you are pursuing.
Their number is (703) 845-6301.
6. In addition, NVCC requires original transcripts from every accrediting institution you have
attended and want to claim credit from, i.e. CLEP/DSST, Advance Placement (AP), dual enrollment,
and transcripts from any regionally accreted College or University. Regardless if this information
appears on your military transcripts or not. For those military members other than Marines and
possibly Sailors if you completed Marine Crops Institute (MCI) courses, you will also need to have
MCI send to the AL Campus a print out of your completed MCIs. Furthermore, unlike your military
transcript the MSO will not know when the College receives other transcripts on you. Normal procedure
when NVCC receives non-AARTS/SMARTS transcripts on you is for the College to contact you via post
card, letting you know it has received transcripts on you. At this point you need to contact the
Counseling Center at the AL Campus/your home Campus and ask that an evaluation be conducted on your
non-military Transcripts. Their number is (703) 845-6301.
7. For those Military Students who have a medical related MOS, the MSO may not have been able
to complete a total evaluation of your transcript, specifically for medical related courses.
For a complete evaluation of those credits you must contact the Health Technologies Department of
the Annandale (AN) Campus for assistance. They can be reached at (703) 323-3435. Note, they may
require you enroll in a Health Technologies program before they will conduct an evaluation.
8. If you completed at least 6 credit hours with NVCC and have completed your evaluation, you
are required by the Military to complete a Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) agreement.
Please come into the MSO of your choice during their posted work hours to complete the required
SOC. Note; please do
this only during non-peek registration periods.
9. If you have any questions on this or any other related matter please contact
Mr. Dan Darley
(DDARLEY@NVCC.EDU), or any other member of the MSO staff during their posted hours. The MSO's
main phone number is (703) 527-5976. The MSO website is WWW.NVCC.EDU/ALEXANDRIA/MILITARY .
