INSTRUCTOR NOTES
9 Dec 2004

Welcome to the Army Education Center at Fort Myer.  We are pleased that you have decided to assist in the education of our soldiers.  We hope this information will help you to develop a fulfilling educational experience for yourself and your students.

Remember, these are mostly old buildings and many different schools and teachers use them everyday of the week. Be considerate of you fellow teachers in all that you do.

Your school coordinator has established hours and assigned you a building/classroom.  Any class time you require beyond this must be coordinated ahead of time thru your school coordinator (e.g. make-up classes).

Each classroom has a TV/VCR, screen, overhead, and a computer with Internet access.  A liquid crystal projector is available by advanced reservation thru the coordinator.  Any equipment not working should be reported to your coordinator. Most overheads have two bulbs; if you burn out one, report it please.  Please retract screens at class end.

Classrooms have erasers and whiteboards and are furnished with whiteboard markers.  If you need additional ones request them thru your coordinator.  Please ensure that no markers other than these are used.  Chart markers and other type markers are very difficult or impossible to erase.

The custodial contractor does not clean whiteboards.  A cleaning spray, paper towels, and wet-wipes are in each room.  Please clean up the boards if you use them.  Items posted to the boards are not to remain over night.

Each classroom has a standard configuration that is displayed on the wall.  This shows the location of teacher/student desks the computer and the overhead.  You may rearrange things to suit yourself, but please return everything to the proper location at class end.

Please do not leave handouts, slides etc. in the classrooms after class.

Climate control is always a problem, particularly when we get abrupt changes in the weather.  The thermostats in the rooms in buildings 219, 230, and 232 do work.  Thermostats in building 404 have a limited 5 degree function but also work.  Please remember to return them to 70 degrees if you lower/raise the temperature.  Please close all windows at class end and during winter lower any provided storm windows.

Report any unacceptable climate problems to your coordinator.

Any emergency regarding the plumbing or heating/cooling systems  should be reported to the Fort Myer Fire Department at 703-696-3483.  They will in turn contact the facility repair people.  On-post police emergencies should be reported to 703-696-3525.

Buildings are opened before 1700 hours and closed at 2200 hours by contract Education Center staff Monday thru Thursday.  Buildings/classrooms on Friday night, Saturday, Sunday and on Federal holidays must be opened and closed by instructors.  Your coordinator should have provided keys. If you are locked out call 703-696-0198.

Eating and drinking must be confined to the break areas.  Smoking can only be done outside.  Food trash should be placed in waste containers within the building.  Trash pick-up is confined to two days each week.  If you sponsor a party collect the trash and take it to the dumpster at the end of Forrest circle.  Extra trash bags are attached to each trash container in the building.  Containers are located outside each building for cigarette butts.

Please turn off all lights and equipment in the room at class end.
