NVCC,
ALEXANDRIA CAMPUS (ONLY)
GETTING
STARTED (CHAPTER 31, VOCREHAB STUDENTS)
Step
1: Get approval from your VOCREHAB counselor in
the DC
Veterans Administration Regional Office to attend Northern
Virginia Community College (NVCC) . Counselor should provide
a VA
Form 28-1905 to the Veterans Advisor at your NVCC
home campus. You can apply for VOCREHAB on line or mail
the VOCREHAB form the Veterans Administration Regional Office.
Please refer to the below two links.
Step
2: Apply
for admission
to NVCC.
Step
3: Register
only for NVCC classes, which are required by your VA approved
program. NOTE: To receive the monthly subsistence allowance,
you must register for at least 6 semester hours or for the summer
you need to be enrolled into enough credits to reach ¾ pay.
Step
4: Report your classes to the
campus Veterans Advisor using NVCC
Form 125-63, Veterans Enrollment Reporting Form. (This is a
critical step and if not completed, will prevent you from receiving
VA benefits).
Step
5: Go to the business office in Room 230, Bisdorf
Building (AA), ask for the government contracts clerk and tell her
that you are an approved VOCREHAB student. She will put a code in
your record to prevent the school's computer from dropping your
classes because of nonpayment of tuition and fees. Also, ask her
to print a registration receipt, which you can use to get your parking
permit, books and supplies without direct cost to you.
Step
6: Take your registration receipt to Parking Services
(AA 239), complete an application for campus parking and receive
your parking permit .
Step
7: Take your registration receipt to the bookstore
in Room 104, Tyler Building (AT), and get the
approved textbooks for your classes. You may also
purchase required supplies, not to exceed $45 per semester for full-time
enrollment. NOTE: Supply allotment is reduced proportionately for
enrollments that are less than full time . NOTE: Cash register
operators are not often familiar with VOCREHAB procedures. If you
have a problem, ask for Natalie or another assistant manager.
Step
8: Once approved as Chapter 31 Veteran, you
will report your courses to the VA, and report any changes to your
courses, just as any other Chapter Veteran. See Veteran's
Affairs Office Webpage for these details.
