Guidelines and Policies

  • The computers are to be used for completing homework assignments, writing essays, and papers. Students will be required to log on using their LAN account information

  • The word processor used is Microsoft Word (Office 2007).
  • You should bring a 3½ inch floppy disk formatted for IBM or a USB flash stick to save your work.
  • If you are not using the Writing Center with your class, you should check the homework option when you logon and sign into the computer sign-in program.
    • Please note for which class you are using the computer.
    • Please note that the hours that the Writing Center is available for use are posted near the Writing Center door.
    • Classes have priority over individual students. Classes only use the Reading Lab unless a staff member O.K.'s its use by individual students.

  • The Internet use must be related to college assignments.
  • Staff members are available to assist students with problems using the computer and simple editing and research questions. Additional editing or tutoring questions should be directed to your instructor, or the Writing Assistance Center, Room 340.
  • Be sure to edit and spell check on screen before printing. Print no more than two copies of your final document. A copier is available in the Library for additional copies. Printing from the Internet and Word is limited to 10 pages per day.
  • Carefully remove papers from the printer. Take only your document. Leave the rest on the table/shelf near the printer.
  • Each student must do his/her own work. Please read The English Department's Statement about Honesty for more information.
  • Group work is not encouraged. We strive to provide a quiet work environment for all students.
  • All food and drink must be left at the tables, not near the computers.
  • Pagers must be silent. The use of cell phones is not permitted and they must be turned off.
  • Children are not allowed in any of the Labs.
  • If you need assistance, ask a staff member.
  • Please be patient, especially when we are having computer/printer problems.
