Researching Local Issues

Statistics & Government Information

Statistics - Statistics help support your argument and may lead you to other sources.  You may need to think about other ways to express your topic when you look for statistics.  You also may need to look in a couple different sources to find the statistic that you want.

In the Library's Reference Area:

CQ's State Fact Finder Ref HA214 .V36
County and City Extra: Annual Metro, City, and County Data Book Ref HA203 .C68

Topical Sources:

We also have statistical sources that focus on a particular topic, such as the environment, crime, and the homeless. To find more books with statistics on your topic, use the Library Catalog to do a Keyword search.  Type in your topic and statistics.  For example: homeless and statistics

Web-based Sources:

Northern Virginia Databook

U.S. Census Bureau  (Select Virginia - this will take you to a page where you can select specific counties.)
