How
to Find Book Reviews
To
find book reviews, you can check both the print and
online sources described below.
Online Sources
To
find book reviews online, use one of our periodical
databases:
1) Start
at the Library
home page
2)
Select “Articles.”
(Off campus, log in with your NovaConnect username
and password).
3)
The databases described below, ProQuest, Expanded
Academic, and JSTOR are good ones to start
with.
Type
in the title of the book you’re interested in and
book review.
For example: War hero and an antiwar hero and
book review
Type in the title of the book you're interested in,
then under "More Search Options" choose
Review -- Book Reviews as the Document Type.
In
the search box, type the title of the book and book
review. For example: Colonial America and book
review
JSTOR
(Under
"Humanities")
On
the Advanced Search page, type in the title of your
book, then select "Review" under "Narrow
Your Search to These Types."

Index for Book Reviews
Book
Review Digest Ref Z1219 .C95
This source provides lists of citations
– and sometimes excerpts – of book reviews found in
periodicals.
To
find reviews for your book:
- First,
find out when your book was originally published.
- Then
look in the Book Review Digest volumes for
that year, and the year or two after.
- The
citations include:
-
the
abbreviated name of the journal,
-
the
volume number, page and date of the periodical,
-
name
of reviewer, and
-
the
approximate number of words in the review.
The
full name of the periodical is given in the List
of Periodicals/Publications, found in the front of each
issue.
To
read the complete text of a book review,
you will need to check our Magazine,
Journal & Newspaper List to see if we subscribe
to the periodical it’s in. Once you're on that page,
type in the
title of the periodical (e.g., New York Times,
Psychology Today) you need. This list will tell
you if we subscribe to a particular periodical and,
if we do, where it’s located.
