How to Apply for the Honors Program

studentFor students to be eligible for the Honors Program, they should meet one of the following criteria:

  • Place into honors English 111 via NOVA English Placement Test.
  • Place into honors math based on the NOVA Math Placement Test.
  • Document an average score of 600 on the new SAT Critical Reading and Essay tests, with no score below 500.
  • Document a score of 600 or above on the new Math SAT exam.
  • Graduate in the top 10% of your high school class.
  • Submit two recommendations from professors at NOVA, and receive a recommendation from the Honors Coordinator on the campus.

A student who meets one of the above criteria should pick up an honors application from one of the following persons:  Robert Brunner, the Coordinator of the Honors Program or Majorie Kinnaman, Honors Counselor.  These persons may be found in Room 252 of the Bisdorf Building.  After the student completes and submits the application, he or she will be interviewed by either Robert or Marjorie.  The interviewer will, in turn, contact the student about the results of his or her application.
