Do you want to lose fat, gain muscle, amplify strength, tone muscle, increase flexibility and boost self-confidence? Alexandria Campus Fitness Center is open to all current faculty, staff and students of Northern Virginia Community College. The fitness center is equipment with various advanced machines and equipment for all levels of conditioning.

We provide various health and fitness assessments, fitness consultations and personal training sessions to all current faculty staff and students. If interested, please stop by the fitness center and speak with our awesome front desk staff or email us at alfitnesscenter@nvcc.edu

The fitness center is located in the second floor of the Fine Arts Building, Room 230.

About us

Welcome to Alexandria Campus Recreation and Wellness Department. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life within the Alexandria campus by encouraging engagement through recreation and wellness programs and facilities that inspire intellectual, spiritual, emotional, physical and social development. The purpose of Alexandria campus Recreation and Wellness Department is to provide positive fitness and wellness programs and services for all faculty, staff, college retirees and current students, inclusive of all fitness levels and physical abilities.

The Alexandria Campus Recreation and Wellness facilities are equipped with advanced cardiovascular equipment with build in TVs, apps with WIFI connectivity. We have Functional trainers, selectorized resistance machines, free weights, half basketball court, a fully equipped dance studio, a lecture/lab classroom, lockers and showers Our facilities are open to all current faculties, staff, and students.

Basketball Court

Whether you want to shoot some hoop with friends and classmates, or play 3 on 3 pickup games, or would like to master your shooting skills, we will have sessions for you. We offer daily pick games that you can sign up or drop in. we also have a basketball shooting machine that is setup every morning to practice your shooting skills in court.

The Basketball Court is located in the second floor of the Fine Arts Building, Room 234. Current NOVA ID is required.

Recreation and Wellness Activities and Classes

We offer various recreation and wellness activities and classes every week. Whether you are interested in playing ping pong, join 3 on 3 pickup basketball games, or want to drop in for a yoga or mediation session, we always have options available for you; best of all our activities and non-credited classes are free for all current students, faculty and staff. So come join us and enjoy your time at the Alexandria campus!

All our cardiovascular machines are equipped with build in TVs, apps with WIFI connectivity. The selectorized resistance machines are labeled with QR codes which will direct you to instructional videos on how to use each machine. The following equipment are currently located in our fitness center.

Annandale

The Fitness Center is open to all current students, faculty and staff members of NOVA. The Fitness Center is located in the CE Building of the Annandale Campus, Room 102B and is equipped with various machines and equipment for all levels of conditioning including:

  • Treadmills
  • Elliptical Machines
  • Recumbent Bicycles
  • Dumbbells, Barbells and free weights.
  • Medicine, Stability and BOSU Balls
  • Bumper Plates
  • Power Racks

In order to use the weight room or gymnasium during each visit, you must check in and swipe your NOVA ID at the front desk of the Fitness Center.

Initial Fitness Assessment

The Annandale Fitness Center offers an initial fitness assessment designed to evaluate your current level of fitness. The components which are evaluated include Aerobic Capacity, Muscular Strength and Endurance, Mobility, and Body Composition. This evaluation takes approximately an hour and may be used by students, faculty and staff at NO CHARGE!

Getting Started: After completing your initial assessment, the Fitness Center offers a personal training session in order to help you develop an individualized fitness program that will help you reach your goals! Stop by the fitness center and make an appointment. You can also send an email request to   cmcalonan@nvcc.edu, or call 703.323.2137 to make an appointment.

Work out at the Fitness Center! Current Student ID is required. All persons wishing to use the Center must complete an orientation session and sign a waiver. The process takes about 20 minutes. Your Student ID will activate access to the Center if you have gone through orientation.

The schedule may change periodically throughout the semester to accommodate P.E.D. classes with different starting dates.

The gymnasium portion of the fitness center may not be available during all posted hours; The Ernst Cultural Center frequently rents the gymnasium to outside people and organizations, which could affect gymnasium availability.

  • All fitness center users must be current registered students and present their NOVA ID. Individuals not registered during the current semester and/or not presenting a NOVA ID will not be permitted to use the facility.
  • You must check-in and swipe your NOVA ID at the front desk during each visit.
  • Appropriate athletic attire is required.
  • Water and sports drinks are permitted; NO FOOD!
  • Fitness center use permitted during posted hours only! NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Treat others respectfully! Use of profanity is not permitted.
  • Know your limitations and use a spotter when necessary. Wipe down equipment after using.
  • Failure to adhere to the fitness center rules, proper use of equipment and facilities may result in expulsion from the facility, the incident will be recorded, and the police will be called if necessary.
  • Personal belongings may not be left in the weight room while exercising; lockers are provided for your convenience and safe-keeping of personal belongings. You may check out a locker key for day use only using your NOVA ID. Lockers must be emptied and the key returned after each use in order to receive your NOVA ID back, or your must pay $5 fine for the lock.
  • Sports balls (soccer, basketball, and volleyballs) are available for check out using your NOVA ID at the front desk. The ball number you check out must be returned in order to receive your NOVA ID back, no exceptions.
