Accounting and Business

Organizations need managers who can lead, solve problems, plan, organize, reason and communicate. Successful business environments start with strong leaders.

Transfer Programs

Associate of Science Degree: Business Administration
This curriculum is designed for individuals who plan to transfer to a four-year college/university to complete a baccalaureate degree program in business administration with a major in accounting, business management, information systems, finance or marketing.

Associate of Applied Science Degrees

Transfer is not the primary purpose of the A.A.S. program, but NOVA has articulation agreements that facilitate the transfer of these programs to certain four-year colleges/universities.

This curriculum is designed for people who seek employment in the accounting field or for those currently in the accounting field who wish to increase their knowledge and update their skills.

Business Management
This curriculum is designed for people who seek employment in business management or for those presently in management who are seeking a promotion.


This program is designed to provide you with sufficient knowledge to keep a simple set of accounting books and/or to qualify for entry-level positions in bookkeeping and accounting.

Career Studies Certificates

This curriculum provides you with the accounting courses you need to meet the requirements of the Virginia Board of Accountancy to sit for the Certified Public Accountancy (CPA) examination.

Business Management: Business Information Technology
This curriculum is designed to provide you with the foundations of business information technology and the first award for persons who intend to pursue certificate and/or associates degree programs in business-related fields. The courses in this career studies program provide foundations in basic business practices that can be applied to a variety of certificate and degree programs.

Business Management: Entrepreneurship
This program is designed to prepare you to start and grow a successful small business by providing you with instruction in entrepreneurial culture, strategy, operations, financial management, marketing and leadership.

Business Management: Leadership Development
This program combines communication and human relations competencies with specialized business courses. It is designed for individuals who are currently, or hope to be, in leadership, human resources or supervisory managerial positions in the private or non-profit sector, or governmental organizations. The certificate is especially appropriate for individuals who have a degree related to their filed of employment, but who lack training in team leadership or management skills. The program emphasizes practical application of leadership concepts and theories to prepare students for team leadership positions.
