Students who score below college level on the Virginia Placement Test (VPT) are required to take either ENF 1 (Preparing for College English I (8 CR.) or ENF 2 (Preparing for College English II (4 CR.). These courses are designed to improve students’ reading and writing skills so that they will be better prepared for the exigencies of higher academic courses. The Alexandria campus English department features a wide variety of regular and honors courses including required composition courses; technical and creative writing; and survey courses in American, British, and world literature and film. Also, given the diverse academic backgrounds of our faculty, we are able to offer many specialized courses such as Shakespeare; African American, Filipino, and Women’s Literature; and American Horror Cinema.
