If it has been more than three years since
you have taken classes at NVCC, you will need to use the application
process described above to update your records before attempting
to register.
QUESTIONS ABOUT CLASSES: If you have questions
about Continuing Education classes, please call us at (703) 845-6240
or (703) 845-6280, before you register.
STEP 2:
REGISTRATION: Registration is continuous from August
10th throughout the fall semester. You may register on the web,
by mail, fax, phone or in-person. To avoid being inconvenienced,
register for your course as soon as possible prior to the start
of the class you wish to take. Registering early may also prevent
the disappointment of a cancelled or closed class.
WEB REGISTRATION: You may now
register for most Continuing Education classes on the web. This
requires the use of your NOVACONNECT ID (also called Emplid ID,
Customer ID and Student ID). IF you do not know your ID number,
go to http://www.nvcc.edu, click on the NovaConnect button, and
following the directions under For Students, Find EMPL ID.. Instructions
on how to use the web registration process are also located on this
page. You must pay for your classes by credit card before leaving
the web site. If you attend a class without paying you will be held
financially responsible for the tuition.
IN-PERSON REGISTRATION: If you
would like to register in person, the Continuing Education Office
is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00
p.m., and Tuesday & Thursday from 8:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Bring your completed registration form to Room 213, Engineering
Building, Alexandria Campus.
MAIL REGISTRATION: Complete and
mail the registration form in this flier, along with your check
or money order (payable to NVCC). Your birth date will be used for
registration purposes only.
FAX REGISTRATION: You may register
by fax by filling out the registration form, including your MasterCard,
VISA, or American Express number, expiration date and signature,
and faxing it to our office at (703) 845-6083. Please type or use
black ink on the form.
Phone Registration: 703-845-6240 Continuing Education
staff will accept registration requests during regular business
hours.
STEP 3:
PAYMENT: Payment for Continuing Education courses is due at the
time of registration. Payment must be made by using your credit
card (American Express, MasterCard or Visa) on the web or by paying
with check or cash at the Alexandria Campus Business Office during
their regular hours of operation. They are located in AA 230. Their
normal hours of operation are Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
If this is inconvenient for you, you may also mail in a check with
your registration form or leave your payment with the Continuing
Education Staff, and we will transfer it to the Business Office
for processing. Cash payments require exact change. During in-person
registration for credit classes at the beginning of each semester,
they will have extended evening hours. They can be reached at (703)
845-6211.
Registration is on a first-come, first-served
basis and remains open until the class maximum is met. In the event
a class is completely enrolled, contact the CE Office at (703) 845-6240
for assistance. Students are not allowed to audit or sit in classes
for which they have not paid.
THIRD PARTY PAYMENT: If a student's tuition is to be paid
by a third party (employer, government agency, foreign embassy,
etc.), the student must register in person and present a letter
of authorization or purchase order from the third party at the time
of registration, with the understanding that the student accepts
responsibility for full payment of the tuition if the third party
does not. A student may not register using one form of payment and
then switch to third party payment for that class at a later date.
If you are paying by credit card, the signature of the cardholder
is required.
REFUNDS AND CANCELLED CLASSES:
You will receive prompt notification of course changes and cancellations
by telephone. In the unlikely event that your course is cancelled,
you will automatically receive a full refund. If you are unable
to attend a course that has not been cancelled, you are eligible
to receive a full refund if you cancel your registration on the
web or by calling our office a minimum of 4 days before the starting
date of the first scheduled class meeting. There will be no refund
after this time. The refund deadline for motorcycle courses is two
weeks prior to the start date of class. If you are faxing a cancellation
letter, follow-up with the Continuing Education Office to ensure
it has been received. Refunds for payments made in person using
cash, check or credit card will be processed through Richmond. A
check will be sent to your mailing address within four to six weeks.
Refunds for credit card payments made over the web will appear on
your credit card statement.
ACCOMMODATIONS FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES:
Northern Virginia Community College is committed to providing an
accessible education and a supportive learning environment for all
students. Students with disabilities who require special accommodations
must contact Disabled Student Services at (703) 845-6301 in order
to receive an Accommodations Packet. All information will be kept
confidential.
SENIOR CITIZENS' REGISTRATION: Residents of Virginia
who are 60 years of age or older are welcome to participate tuition-free
in most non-credit courses, on a space-available basis as determined
by the College. Such students are limited to three courses per semester
including any credit course(s) that they may be auditing. Senior
Citizens must come in person to campus and apply to the college,
present proof of age and fill out a Senior Citizen Certification
of Eligibility for Free Tuition form, which may be obtained from
the Office of Continuing Education. Once the necessary paperwork
has been submitted, seniors must call one working day before the
class meets to determine if space is available. In courses with
limited space and large demand, the order in which telephone calls
are received on that day determines admission to the course. To
guarantee a place in a class, payment is required. A senior who
has already made payment for a particular course may not reverse
that registration to free tuition at a later time.
PARKING: Permits are required
for student parking (“B” lots) on the Alexandria Campus
weekdays and weekends. Student permits are available for $35 (check
or money order payable to NVCC) from parking services in room 239
of the Bisdorf Building (call 703-845-6499 for hours, more information).
Hourly parking ($.75, quarters only) is available at the Dawes Avenue
parking lot or in the Beauregard Street garage.
Do not park in a “B” lot without a valid parking permit.
Do not park in an “A” lot at any time.
BOOKSTORE: Barnes & Noble,
the campus bookstore, is located in Room 104 of the Tyler Building
(call 703-845-6221 for hours and information). To charge your books
and have them shipped directly to you, call 1-888-SHIP-TEX.
