Business Information Technology Leadership
Certificate Program


The Business Information Technology Leadership (BITL) Certificate Program meets the information technology systems leadership and management continuing education requirements of the global business market. The BITL Certificate Program provides 8.4 continuing education units (CEU). Each course provides 1.2 CEUs. Program study topics range from the Introduction to Information Technology Systems Leadership course to successive IT leadership-focused courses. Each program course is a separate, stand-alone module integrated within the context of the BITL Certificate Program. The program courses are focused, comprehensive, and interactive. Students will realize the greatest benefit when taking the entire certificate program; however, students may also enroll in individual BITL courses.

Who Should Attend the BITL Certificate Program?
The BITL Certificate Program is designed specifically for intermediate-level business staff, professionals, leaders, and managers involved with information technology systems, persons interested in transitioning to the information technology industry, and information technology professionals desiring to enhance their information technology leadership and management competencies, skills, knowledge, and abilities.

BITL Certificate Program Completion Time-frame
The BITL Certificate Program seven courses can be completed in one collegiate academic semester. Courses meet twice each week for three hours and occasionally on Saturdays.

BITL Certificate Program Prerequisites
The single BITL Certificate Program prerequisite is that students be interested in learning as much as possible about leading and managing information technology resources, processes, and environments.


Introduction to Information System Leadership

As today’s and tomorrow’s leaders, managers, entrepreneurs, or business specialists, business leaders need to understand the concepts of information technology leadership in today’s networked enterprises and global business markets. This course provides exposure and understanding of information systems components, uses, challenges, and leadership and management approaches to address today’s IT challenges. This course introduces students to IT resources and addresses the interconnected relationships of IT for global business success. The course emphasizes the leadership and management competencies to enable organizations to leverage IT to achieve their business goals and objectives and to support business operations, managerial decision making, and achieve competitive and strategic advantages.

Information Systems Analysis Management $445
Systems analysis enables the business and systems analyst to perform a myriad of systems analysis in a structured manner. This course provides the student an in-depth study of systems analysis fundamentals, best industry practices and standards, and the systems lifecycle. The course helps non-technical professionals understand system requirements and specifications. This course will cover data flow diagrams, data dictionaries, entity relationship diagrams, input-output processing charts and methods addressing data and processing. Emphasis is on logical systems analysis that identifies system elements, with hand-on exercises and cases performed in and out of class. This course assumes no computer programming knowledge.

Enterprise Architecture Leadership $445
Enterprise Architecture Leadership introduces the enterprise architecture as an organizational strategic enabler to support strategic planning, decision-making, and business process execution. Students understand enterprise architecture as a recognized approach to describe an organization's current and desired business environments. The course defines enterprise architecture, describes the enterprise architecture background, its current status, and critical importance of leadership as the cornerstone of an effective enterprise architecture capability. Students explore real-world examples of organizations that use enterprise architecture to support their strategic business objectives. Students complete both in and out-of-class assignments.

Transforming Organizations through Business Process Reengineering Leadership $445
Business Process Reengineering (BPR) is the application of information technology system solutions to improve business process effectiveness, efficiency, and to reduce business costs. Students will learn proven methods to reengineer organizational business processes using leadership and management principles, processes, tools, and techniques. The course introduces students to business process reengineering principles using an accepted BPR lifecycle methodology, the industry standard integrated Definition for Functional Modeling (DEF) 0 modeling methodology, and business case development.

This course focuses on a structured approach to managing projects, enabling project completion on time, budget, and meeting project requirements. Project management professionals worldwide employ industry standard project management practices and procedures for projects of all sizes. Businesses worldwide have discovered that formal project management significantly increases the probability of overall project success. This course emphasizes the importance of planning as the cornerstone of effective project management. The course reviews the four project lifecycle phases and includes plans, templates, and terminology used in the project management arena. MS Project 2003 $475
Microsoft Project 2003 is the most popular software application used to automate many of the project management support functions. This course introduces students to the functionality, features, and capabilities of MS Project 2003. The course provides practical experience and enables students to plan projects, tasks, and activities, and allocate resources using MS Project 2003. The course enables students to develop and schedule project timelines, manage costs and schedules, track project progress, and produce essential management reports. Students also learn how to link tasks and activities, develop and use Gantt Charts and network diagrams, enter project data, and compare planned project data to actual project data. This course provides the student with an in-depth study of information systems security management principles, processes, and practices. Information technology systems security is a rapidly growing area of critical concern to business leaders and managers. Businesses are placing sensitive and critical data on automated information systems and need to protect the integrity of the data. Information technology systems security provides the foundation for maintaining integrity for the information technology systems components including hardware, software, database, telecommunications, people, and data. This course addresses various aspects of information technology systems security, discusses real-world cases of information system security incidents, trends, and issues. The course also provides instruction on the developing information technology system security plans and conducting security-related risk assessments.

MCSE-Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer $5999
