Hybrid Training Opportunities
Former and present faculty who teach Hybrid courses should sign up for the Hybrid Overview. Faculty who will teach a Hybrid course for the first time, should register to receive the Hybrid Certification which are four classes: Tracks 1–3 and a wrap-up session over four weeks. Training is offered through TAC.
Hybrid Overview
Duration - 4 hours training
This one-day course is a requirement for current or former faculty who teach hybrid courses. The course revisits the NOVA policies as well as VCCS policies of hybrid instruction.
Hybrid Instruction Certification Program
This Hybrid Instruction Certificate is delivered over four weeks. New Faculty learn the best practices for building a hybrid course. Faculty who fulfilled their Blackboard Competency, complete the Hybrid Tracks and demonstrate that their course meets the NOVA policies and VCCS policies of hybrid instruction will receive the Hybrid Instruction Certification.
Track 1 – What is a Hybrid Course?
Duration - 4 hours training, 2 hours outside activity and online
During this portion of the course, faculty will discuss what constitutes a hybrid course according to NOVA and VCCS standards. Faculty will be introduced to Best Practices in hybrid instruction.
Track 2 – Technology and Collaboration
Duration - 4 hours training, 2 hours outside activity and online
The various types of technologies such as Merlot, Web 2.0, Voice Threads, etc. are discussed and sampled. Faculty comfort level is increased in their use of technology in hybrid instruction.
Track 3 – Design and Activities
Duration - 4 hours training, 2 hours outside activity and online
Faculty focus on how the design of a hybrid course impacts the interaction and the goal of activities to meet learning objectives.
After the completion of the three tracks, faculty will be equipped with the tools and knowledge of NOVA/VCCS policies, design, activities and technology to teach a hybrid course.
