RAD 122 - CHEST
AND ABDOMINAL IMAGING (2 CR.)
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Discusses the anatomy
and physiology and routine radiographic projections of the chest and abdomen.
Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 3 hours per week.
GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE
This course is a component
of a career certificate which is designed for allied health personnel to
receive limited instruction in radiography. At the completion of this course
the student will demonstrate knowledge in radiographic procedures of the
chest and abdomen.
ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES
The prerequisite for
this course is RAD 110 - "Imaging Equipment and Protection". The student
must satisfactorily complete the English and Math placement examinations
and must score at the level of English 111 and Math 120.

C. Identify the mediastinal
structures
D. Identify the following
anatomy on a chest radiograph
1. costophrenic angles
2. cardiophrenic angles

4. heart shadow
5. diaphragm, hemidiaphragm
6. base and apex of
lungs
7. hilum
8. trachea
E. Identify the quadrants
and regions of the abdomen
F. Identify the digestive
organs of the abdomen
G. Identify the following
anatomy
1. diaphragm
2. kidneys
3. liver
4. location of kidneys
5. bladder
6. vertebral column
7. pelvic anatomy
II. POSITIONING
A. Position
the chest to include
1. PA and
Lateral
2. Trauma AP
3. Rt. and Lt. Decubitus

B. State the topographic
landmarks needed to position an abdominal examination
C. Identify the bony
anatomy on an abdominal film
D. Identify the muscles
