COURSE DESCRIPTION
Refines basic skills
of downhill skiing; reviews selection and use of equipment, terminology
and safety rules. Includes field experience. Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory
1 hour. Total 2 hours per week.
GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE
The purpose of this
course is to review basic skills and knowledge of downhill skiing and to
improve skills to an intermediate level.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of
this course, the student will be able to:
A. demonstrate basic
skills
B. develop intermediate
skills
C. develop a higher
level of fitness through downhill skiing
MAJOR EEMENTS OF CONTENT
A. Conditioning exercises
B. Review of terminology,
background, and safety rules
C. Review skills of
turning, stopping, getting up, proper use of poles
D. Review of proper
clothing, maintenance and care of equipment
E. Parallel turns
and stops at an intermediate skill level on intermediate slopes
