MUS 101-2 - BASIC MUSICIANSHIP I-II (3 CR.) (3 CR.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Provides exercises leading to knowledge and skill in the rudiments of music. Includes rhythmic notation as well as scales, keys, intervals along with exercises in sight-reading and ear training. Lecture 3 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

To provide musical knowledge and skills for the student who wishes to study the basic rudiments of music.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:

    1. read music utilizing both bass and treble clefs
    2. develop an understanding of key
    3. develop basic skills in keyboard, sight-singing, and ear training

    2. The keyboard
    3. Notation of rhythm
    4. Major and minor scales
    5. Key signatures
    6. Intervals
    7. Solfege

    3. Basic chords to accompany simple songs
