ART 237 - CERAMIC DECORATION (4 CR.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Explores ceramic decoration techniques used in functional and non-functional ceramics. Lecture 2 hours. Studio instruction 4 hours. Total 6 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

The purpose of the ceramic course is to study various decorating techniques as they relate to a studio pottery environment. Emphasis will be on craftsmanship and creativity with special attention given to total concept from idea to finished product. This is a second-year course as a studio option under the Fine Arts major.

ENTRY-LEVEL COMPETENCIES

The prerequisite for this course is ART 154 - "Ceramics II". The student must have basic handbuilding and wheelthrowing skills.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Study and development of various decorative techniques and their relationship to various ceramic forms.

    1. Study of engobe decorating techniques
    2. Study of underglaze decorating techniques
    3. Study of overglazing decorating techniques
    4. Study of glaze decorating techniques
