ART 235 - FUNCTIONAL CERAMICS (4 CR.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Explores the design and production of functional ceramics, including hand building and use of the wheel. Lecture 2 hours. Studio instruction 4 hours. Total 6 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

The purpose of the ceramic course is to study various hand building and wheel throwing techniques utilized in the production of functional pottery forms. Emphasis will be on craftsmanship and creativity with special attention given to total concept; from idea to finished product. This is a second-year course as a studio option under the Fine Arts major.

ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES

Prerequisite is ART 154 - "Ceramics II" or permission of instructor.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Development of technically sound and esthetically pleasing functional forms with emphasis of craftsmanship and creativity.

    1. Study of pitcher forms
    2. Study of casserole forms
    3. Study of teapot forms
    4. Study of sets of a single form
